Learning In Public On Wikis

April 27, 2011 by Beth Kanter

I'm just beginning a new crop of peer learning projects for nonprofits to learn the practice of being  networked nonprofits and use social media effectively at Zoetica and through my work as Visiting Scholar at the Packard Foundation. I'm also trying to shift my own practice into more design and train the trainers and coach the coaches versus direct delivery.   It's hard because you have to be very disciplined about noticing and documenting your practice. Wikis can be terrific platforms for … [Read more...]

Social Media and Mobile for Real Time Professional Learning at Conferences

April 26, 2011 by Beth Kanter 6 Comments

Last week,  I faciltated a mini-workshop at the Silicon Valley/Peninsula Nonprofit Leadership Forum hosted by Compasspoint.  I've had the pleasure of working closely with Compasspoint as part of my continuing work as Visiting Scholar at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.   I enjoy it because I get double dose:   great ideas about the integration of technology with leadership, training, and capacity building AND the content. Later,  Michael Hoffman, who was in the audience,  introduced me to his friends at "The Calling" and they suggested  I write a guest post about anything I'm … [Read more...]

Note from Beth: Show Me Your Dashboard!  Imagine that I'm dancing around singing that phrase.    I'm looking for good examples (and stories) about nonprofit dashboards, especially ones that support social media decision-making.   Tell me about your dashboard in the comments - and if you're willing to take a screen capture or two, your organization's dashboard could be featured on this blog! Nonprofit Dashboards, Guest Post by Jacob Smith A dashboard can be your nonprofit's trusted adviser.  … [Read more...]

QR Codes, Electronic Devices,Nonprofits, and Concert Etiquette

April 18, 2011 by Beth Kanter

QR Codes (Quick Response) is a bar code that can be scanned by your mobile phone (with a free app) and are currently being used with print media (or t-shirt media) to point people to more information online.   The information embedded can be a URL, a link to a download, text, phone number, or SMS. According this post by Gina Trapani, many geeks think QR codes are gimmicky, clumsy, not used well or enough, or that they're "a solution looking for a problem.   That's no surprise given there  are … [Read more...]
