The Power of Small Wins: Celebrating Your Nonprofit's To Dones

July 28, 2017 by Beth Kanter Leave a Comment

Working as a nonprofit consultant can sometimes feel isolating.  That's why it important to have networking opportunities to connect with professional colleagues face-to-face beyond online groups.    I try to make an effort to do this regularly. This past week, I met up with nonprofit consultant Carrie Rice. We met in a nonprofit conference space of another colleague, Corey Newhouse, executive director of PublicProfit.   Her organization helps youth organizations do program evaluation using … [Read more...]

One of my colleagues, Nada Hamzeh, a nonprofit capacity building consultant from Lebanon, tagged me when sharing this striking image that depicts how can easily develop a behavior addiction to our mobile phones. Recently, a colleague asked me a wonderful question:  How did you learn to become a good facilitator and trainer? Did you read books, take classes, or have a coach? I answered yes to all, but more importantly I think these two methods helped me the most: Carve out time for reflection after each training and do an after-action review with yourself. Evaluate your content, facilitation, and logistical skills against participant evaluations.  If time is available, also do a plus/delta exercise … [Read more...]

What I Learned About Philanthropy, Fundraising, and Social Impact at IFCAsia in Bangkok

July 19, 2017 by Beth Kanter Leave a Comment

Last month, I was honored to co-teach a master class and workshops on digital strategy and crowdfunding with Cambodia colleague, Tharum Bun, at the first IFCAsia in Bangkok.    I learned so much about the digital challenges facing Asian NGOs, how these are similar or different from NGOs in other regions, met and connect with amazing people, and was inspired by the speakers I heard and the workshops I took for my own learning. The IFCAsia delivered on all the reasons why someone should … [Read more...]
