Do You Work for A Nonprofit That Promotes A Culture of Wellbeing in the Workplace?

September 20, 2016 by Beth Kanter

A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog post called “Why the Nonprofit Work Ethic Is Outdated and Needs Change,” about why nonprofit professionals need to pay attention to self-care and bring a culture of wellbeing into the nonprofit workplace.  (The topic of my forthcoming book, The Happy Healthy Nonprofit: Impact without Burnout) When I shared this article on my Facebook Page, it resonated with a lot of people. While many nonprofit professionals talked about how their nonprofits were pressure … [Read more...]

As part of co-authoring my next book, The Happy Healthy Nonprofit: Strategies for Impact without Burnout, with Aliza Sherman, we both are still practicing the ideas in the book around self-care and well being at work.    We talk about self-care as a holistic experience that goes beyond Kale smoothies and massages, although those things are nice.    When we describe self-care in the book, it isn't just a focus on physical health, but also something we call "technology wellness." During the q/a, … [Read more...]

Last week I was honored to be a counselor at Museum Camp, an annual professional development event hosted by the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History (MAH). Each year they bring together diverse, passionate people for a sleep-away camp for adults where they  learn together through active, creative workshops and activities.  Since the theme this year was "Change Making," I taught a workshop on self-care for change makers based on my forthcoming book, The Happy Healthy Nonprofit, co-authored … [Read more...]

Resource: The Social Media Toolkit for Nonprofits

September 7, 2016 by Beth Kanter Leave a Comment

The Skills Platform and Zoe Amar have created the Social Media Toolkit to aid professionals within the charity and third sectors.  I'm thrilled to have contributed a chapter There are many guides to digital and social media. From Dummies guides to video tutorials, it’s all out there. But, Dave Evans, the Skills Platform’s product manager and Zoe felt that something was missing – a toolkit that helps pull everything together. The aim of the toolkit is to equip the charity sector’s already … [Read more...]
