Google Launches Google for Nonprofits

March 17, 2011 by Beth Kanter

I'm in Washington, DC for the Nonprofit Technology Conference hosted by NTEN.   After facilitating a panel at the Innogive Conference on integrating mobile into multi-channel nonprofit campaigns,  I headed to a special event hosted by Google to celebrate the launch of Google for Nonprofits. If you work for a nonprofit, the program provides your organization with several new benefits. Instead of applying to each Google product individually, you can sign up through a one-stop shop application … [Read more...]

Innogive Conference: Panel Integrated Mobile/Social Strategy for Nonprofits

March 16, 2011 by Beth Kanter

I'm at the  Innogive 2011 Conference today.   The focus is on Mobile Giving.   The format is a mix of Ted style presentations and interactive panel discussions.  I just finished moderating a panel on the topic of social and mobile integration.  Here's the description: Where and how do mobile and social strategy intersect. How do you combine mobile with the grassroots power of social media to successfully engage donors. Can mobile drive volunteers activists, to engage across … [Read more...]

SXSW Reflection: Using Social Media to Facilitate A Global Back Channel at a Panel Session

March 15, 2011 by Beth Kanter

Over the past month,  I have been thinking about a couple of different ideas and how to incorporate them into training design to facilitate learning.       My questions are: 1.  How can we integrate content sharing and audience interaction in the right balance to unleash pearls of wisdom from both audience and the experts on the stage? 2. How can we use graphic facilitation or graphic note taking in real time to deepen understanding of the topic being discussed? 3. How can nonprofits learn from … [Read more...]

Happy International Women's Day: Meet Keo Savon

March 8, 2011 by Beth Kanter 2 Comments

Happy International Women's Day!  It is a major day of global celebration of women. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements. Tom Watson has written about a remarkable woman in Cambodia,  Mu Sochu.   My tribute is to a Cambodian woman leader of the future.   I'd like to  introduce you to Keo Savon, an orphan from Cambodia from the same … [Read more...]

Network Skills for Personal Productivity and Organizational Strategy

March 7, 2011 by Beth Kanter

Open Net∞WORKing Organizations 10 Dimensions  View more presentations from Jenny Ambrozek. I've been thinking a lot lately about applying the "network mindset" to one's works, whether that be philanthropy or nonprofits.  There are two different frames -- you can use a networked mindset to increase your personal productivity or think of it in organizational strategy terms. There is also a field of practice and thought leaders who apply network thinking in a business context. I noticed that … [Read more...]

National Day of Unplugging

March 4, 2011 by Beth Kanter

I'm about to hop on a plane and fly from Beirut back home in a few hours.   That's precisely when the  National Day of Unplugging (NDU) starts.  The purpose is to encourage young, hyper-connected, and frequently frantic people of all backgrounds to re-embrace the ancient beauty of a day of solitude and unplug their smart phones. It runs for the 25 hours from sundown Friday, March 4, to sundown, Saturday, March 5. According to the press release, the first NDU last March reached tens of millions … [Read more...]

E-Mediat Day 4: What does it mean to be a social media trainer?

March 3, 2011 by Beth Kanter 1 Comment

Beirut Diary: I’m in Beirut for the week as part of The E-Mediat project, a capacity building project that leverages a networked approach. I’m the lead for Zoetica where my role is to deliver training, advise on the curriculum and coaching methods, model transparency, and serve as meta network weaver. I have the honor of co-training with some of the best folks doing work in this part of the world.   (Here’s the posts from Day 1 and Day 2) The E-Mediat project is sponsored by MEPI, US … [Read more...]
