The Unanticipated Benefit of Content Curation

I was honored to write a feature article in the recent issue of the NTEN journal called "The Unanticipated Benefits of Content Curation: Reducing Information Overload."   I'll be doing a FREE webinar on Thursday, July 12 at 11 am PST to walk you through the idea and practices described in the area.  You can register for the webinar here. One Simple Secret to Social Media Success: Post Consistent Content Your Audience Loves

July 10, 2012 by Beth Kanter

Post consistent content that your audience loves and your social media will be successful.   Is it that simple?  Yes and no.    Using best practices and tips based on research can help you improve.  But if you want to get better results, you need a content strategy, strong creation and curation skills, and a  robust measurement process.   And the latter is not about gathering data - it is about making sense of it and using it to continually improve. One technique I use to get insights from my … [Read more...]

Using Facebook Groups for Deeper Engagement with Audience or Your Peers

July 6, 2012 by Beth Kanter

Note from Beth: Facebook Groups can be used to help build communities and for deeper engagement and learning with your audience or peers.   I've been using Facebook groups to projects that are focused on peer learning and I have set up groups of colleagues to provide just in time support.    Facebook Groups can also help nonprofits build community or be used to support and rally champions for your cause.   Earlier this week, NTEN hosted a chat on the topic and the unedited transcript is here … [Read more...]

July 5, 2012 by Beth Kanter

Flickr Photo by Joel Goodman Note From Beth: I've had the pleasure of working closely with KD Paine, the Goddess of Measurement,  on my next book,  "Measuring the Networked Nonprofit" which not talks about what to measure, but how nonprofits can do it.     Last month, she was in Dublin at the annual gathering for measurement experts who are charting out the future of social media metrics standards.        She published several reports on her blog: Five Steps You Can Take Now to Apply the New … [Read more...]

July 4, 2012 by Beth Kanter 3 Comments

Mari mentioned in an email was that one of the women in this workshop was a  lawyer, who heads up WRAPA (Women's Rights and Protection Alternative) and LACVAW, a coalition of 70 orgs working on rights issues (see … [Read more...]

Balance the Spontaneous and Strategic of Social Media: Newsjacking and Obamacare

July 3, 2012 by Beth Kanter 3 Comments

As part of my work at the Packard Foundation this year,  I'm honored to be working on a project called "Friending the Finishline," a group of children's health advocates who are working together on a peer learning exchange to discover how to best use Facebook and other social networking tools to advance their work in children’s health.    One area of challenge:  balancing strategic communications with spontaneity of social media.     The spontaneous part is all the organic stuff, … [Read more...]
