Rob Stuart shared my birthday, Jan. 11th. We were both part of the 1-11-11 club. But we also shared more than that - the nonprofit technology field. Rob was the godfather. The last time I saw him was in 2009 in San Francisco at the NTC - he attended almost of them from the time they were called the roundup. I just learned that Rob passed away, leaving behind a wife and two daughters. I'm shocked and saddened. Back in the mid-1990's - after 15 years of working the nonprofit sector, I got … [Read more...]
Celebrating 25 Years Today: Some Thoughts About Relationships and Networks
Twenty five years ago on this date (September 14th), my husband and I got married! We've been together for 32 years! I marked my 20th anniversary in Flickr and on YouTube with this video (darn the gown doesn't fit!) I would donate $50 to the … [Read more...]
Taking A Break from Blogging this Week: Ocean View Wins
Taking a break from online this week to stare at the ocean, visit family, and air out the brain. As someone who spends a lot of time online, breaks like this can be good for the heart, soul, and brain. So you'll see less of me here, on Twitter, Google+, Facebook, and email. I grew up in South Jersey and spent my … [Read more...]
My New Year's Resolution: Balancing Solitude and Connectedness
One of my New Year's resolutions is to reduce distractions. It's about curating your network but allowing time for strategic serendipity. I'll be writing about that topic in the weeks and months to come. I've discovered some wonderful discussion threads about one of my favorite topics: Information Overload and Strategies for Coping. As George Siemens points out the issue of information overload is not new. His definition of the problem is that it gets in the way of sustained mindfulness … [Read more...]
