Tech2Empower: The Llama Pack Project

November 1, 2018 by Beth Kanter

Last week I was got to work on a week-long service trip in Cusco, Peru as part of Wake: Women's Alliance for Knowledge Exchange #Tech2empower program where women who work in technology volunteer to share their professional skills and knowledge with women-run business owners. The team I worked with helped social entrepreneur Alejandra Arias Stella, the co-founder of the Llama Pack Project to build a reservation system for the Llama treks. The team consisted of volunteers from Google, including … [Read more...]

Recap: Twitter #GivingTuesdayMyths Chat Hosted by Salesforce Foundation

October 12, 2018 by Beth Kanter

Yesterday Allison Fine and I participated in a chat hosted by the Salesforce Foundation and moderated by Emily Goodstein on the topic "GivingTuesday Myths."  I have to say that the best thing shared was from Rob Cottingham who illustrated a key point about the importance of building relationship and engagement! Here are the myths we discussed. Here's a transcript of our discussion captured in a Twitter Moment. Myth 1: #GivingTuesday is only about raising money. Myth 2: GivingTuesday and End … [Read more...]

Modern Wellbeing: Infographic from Kaleido Insights

October 10, 2018 by Beth Kanter 1 Comment

This infographic is titled "Modern Wellbeing" was  created by Jeremiah Owyang and his business partner Jessica Groopman from Kaleido Insights. The infographic synthesizes an extensive research project to look at the intersection of health, wellbeing, and technology. I first met Jeremiah in 2005 through the blogosphere and the early days of social media.  We have followed parallel paths and interests of technology and wellbeing, but I've been focused on the nonprofit community and Jeremiah in the … [Read more...]

AI for Nonprofits and Social Good: Link Roundup

October 9, 2018 by Beth Kanter Leave a Comment

Allison Fine and I have been actively researching and writing about AI for Social Good and Nonprofits with an eye towards our next book. Most recently, we co-wrote an  op-ed for the Chronicle of Philanthropy on the age of automation and it implications for fundraisers.  We are tracking the conversation and resources about AI and Nonprofits and social good. Here's this month's roundup. Algorithmic Bias: Better Policy and Practice for Civil Society:    This podcast about #datadiscrimination and … [Read more...]

The Causes and Costs of Lost Productivity in Nonprofit Workplaces and How To Avoid It

September 5, 2018 by Beth Kanter 2 Comments

As part of the workshops that I deliver based on the Happy Healthy Nonprofit, one of my most popular is how to avoid collaborative overload in the nonprofit workplace. Collaborative overload results from too many pointless meetings, a tsunami of emails, and a drumbeat of constant interruptions. These three things not only cause a lot of stress and can lead to burnout, but also end up costing a lot of money in wasted time and lost productivity.   This infographic offers a great summary and breaks … [Read more...]
