The Ultimate Multi-Tasking: My Networked Nonprofit Keynote at the Blackbaud Conference
Blackbaud's Nonprofit Conference is from October 20-22 in Washington, DC. Here's the list of sessions. I'll be doing a keynote about the Networked Nonprofit on Thursday, October 21st from 8-9:30 am along with Allison Fine (live-streamed here). But, I'll be in Atlanta at the Independent Sector Conference. No, I can't be in the same place - that is physically - at the same time. But with the use of the #bbcon and #netnon hashtag on Twitter and a video, I'll be there! So if you don't … [Read more...]
How Networked Nonprofits Use Twitter and Other Things I learned in Vegas
How networked nonprofits use twitter View more presentations from Beth Kanter. Last week, I parachuted into BlogWorld 2010 in Las Vegas for less than 24 hours. I presented on two panels (How Nonprofits Use Twitter and CrowdSourced Philanthropy) in the Cause Track curated by Chris Noble and the good folks at WhatGives. During the conference, there was a hashtag campaign - #beatcancer where PayPal and SWAGG will donated $0.05 for every hashtag mention to cancer charities. (Hoping … [Read more...]
What I Learned About Unpresenting from Heather Gold
I first met Heather Gold when she did stand up comedy at the first Blogher conference in 2005. In addition to comedy, Heather is a keynote speaker and teaches her unique style of interactive performance in "unpresenting" workshops. I do a lot of presenting and am spending to much time writing bullet points, creating slides, and practicing what I'm going to say. I think that this puts a stop to creating conversation in the room. I wanted to learn some conversational mechanics -- so I … [Read more...]
Video Can Help Boost Donations in End-Of-The-Year Fundraising
Note from Beth: I'm planning a year-end campaign for one of my favorite charities and wanted some good tips on incorporating video. And since, the busy season is coming up for all you nonprofit fundraisers - year end giving and Network for Good has just announced a Year-End Giving Challenge, I thought a guest post from Michael Hoffman about you can incorporate video to power your campaigns was in order. Enjoy. Video Can Help Boost Donations in End-Of-The-Year Fundraising by Michael … [Read more...]
The Networked Nonprofit Board
The last chapter of the Networked Nonprofit is on networked governance. We thought this would be an easy part of the book to write – all we'd have to do is find examples of how boards online, opening up decisionmaking to outside influences. There were no examples - so the last chapter of the book is speculative, based on the best thinking of the people who have looked at networked governance. I dreamed up some scenarios of boards and social media in practice. As part of my work as Visiting … [Read more...]
Tips for Remote Presenting
Financial Officers Group View more presentations from Beth Kanter. This morning Liz Karlin, who works at the Packard Foundation in Grant Operations, and I did a remote presentation for the Foundation Financial Officers Group on Organizational Change and Social Media Policy development. I talked about the change in workstyle that is needed before codifying a social culture through a social media policy. Liz gave a presentation on the process that Packard used to development its Social … [Read more...]
Networked Nonprofit in Boston: A Story of Contrasts
Earlier this week, I flew across the country (thanks Virgin America!) to Boston for two days of book events hosted by Associated Grant Makers, Barr Foundation, Public Conversations Project, TechFoundation and Berkman Center Luncheon series. This post shares a few observations about Networked Nonprofits. Networking: Weaving Online and Offline, Strong Ties and Weak Ties I have been experimenting with how to deliver "networked" presentations and workshops. So, I was delighted to get an … [Read more...]
Lessons Learned From A Twitterthon
Note from Beth: Diana Scimone is a free agent fundraiser. She is no stranger to building relationships. She and I have have linked to each other's blog posts and commented on each others posts over the past three years. I wrote about her project The Born2Fly Project to stop child trafficking in January, 2009 on National Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery Awareness Day. (Ironically, it is also the same day as my birthday). She did her first Twitter fundraiser in September on … [Read more...]
