Captivology: The Science of Capturing People's Attention
This month's theme for the nonprofit Blog Carnival is "Breaking Through the Noise," calling for tips and ideas about how nonprofits can reach their audiences with the right message at the right time given the clutter of online information clamoring for their attention. Last month, I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of Ben Parr's new book, Captivology: The Science of Capturing People's Attention that is packed with research, insights, and tips about how to capture your audience's … [Read more...]
Measuring the Impact of Your Nonprofit Program
A few months ago, I facilitated a mini-innovation lab on measuring impact for grantees of the Google Nonprofit program at the Impact Hub. The workshop used design-thinking based on Luma methodology to help participants develop a communications strategy for measuring impact. The process took participants through an assessment of the problems facing them, collective brainstorming, and prototyping. The group included a mix of Google grantees as well as measurement professionals. That's … [Read more...]

There is much research out there about why sitting at work is downright dangerous for your health. There is also research about how walking or even standing up at work can increase you and your team's creativity. Yet, many nonprofits are losing productivity and less creative because they are trapped in a culture of sitting. It's time to … [Read more...]
